Used to be able to buy saltpetre easily from the local chemists but in this 'more enlightened age' absolutely everything seems to gets bound-up by spurious health and safety excuses. However, this is good quality saltpetre as used in many traditional recipes such as salt beef, salami etc. (Used in conjunction with salt [sodium chloride] it preserves and makes the pink colour associated with such meats.) Also, can assist with making odd items such as smouldering cord for safely lighting fireworks, helping with the decomposition of tree stumps etc. Apparently used in toothpaste for sensitive teeth but I would recommend that you buy the pukka stuff for that!

hi this salt peter was great and did exactly as i expected btu the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is because the postage and packaging was a little expensive.
